Gary Fishlock Recognized Nationally for His Impact on the Credit Union Movement
TCT Federal Credit Union (TCT FCU) is proud to announce that Board Member Gary Fishlock was recently recognized as one of eighteen professionals nationwide to receive the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders Award.
“I am honored to contribute to the safety and soundness of the credit union industry,” Fishlock said.
Each year, Credit Union House recognizes individuals who have made a significant and lasting impact on the credit union movement. These leaders and advocates are permanently honored on the Hall of Leaders wall in Washington, D.C.
Gary has built a distinguished career on his dedication to service and community. He began his work in finance while serving in the United States Air Force in the 1960s. From 1965 to 1968, during the height of the Cold War, he investigated financial crimes and monitored East German Communist activity in the United Kingdom. After his Honorable Discharge in 1968, Gary joined HSBC as a Finance Manager, where he was responsible for improving underperforming branches and investigating financial irregularities—work that closely paralleled his military experience.
In 1979, Gary became the Chief Operating Officer of a credit union in Ticonderoga, NY. Over the next decade, he strengthened internal policy, compliance, and operations to reduce risk and enhance organizational performance. In 1998, Gary was hired by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), the federal regulator of credit unions. He served as Interim CEO for credit unions facing or approaching conservatorship.
From 1988 to 2010, Gary provided leadership to credit unions across the Northeast, earning a reputation as the NCUA Northeast Region’s “go?to CEO.” He served in more than twenty?five interim leadership roles, many in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Throughout this period, he mentored numerous emerging leaders who have since advanced into senior positions within the credit union industry.
Gary was appointed CEO of Tremont Credit Union in 2009 and has remained involved as an advisor. His leadership was instrumental to the credit union’s stability and ongoing success. Although he retired from full?time employment over twelve years ago, he continues to support the movement through advisory roles at multiple institutions and currently serves on the board of his hometown credit union, TCT FCU.
Gary’s enduring commitment to the credit union movement and the many leaders he has guided stand as a lasting testament to his impact.
